A scorching Sunday in Sturton saw the lads put in a shift in what was an eventful pre-season encounter, played in three 30-minute periods due to the heat.
After a solid opening spell and putting in some of the work from training, we went into the first break at 0-0. The breakthrough came five minutes later when James Waterfield linked up nicely with Luke Holmes, who tucked away the opener to make it 1-0. Shakespeare responded quickly, equalising just seven minutes later, taking the game into the final half-hour at 1-1.
On 65 minutes, some great team play saw debutant Troy Quinlan grab his first for the club, making it 2-1. Shakespeare United then hit back with two of their own to take the lead — but the Gers weren’t done yet.
As the pressure mounted in the final stretch, a handball in the box gave us a penalty. Billy Quinlan stepped up and calmly slotted it home to secure a well-earned draw.
Final Score: 3-3
Goals: Holmes, T. Quinlan, B. Quinlan
Man of the Match: Troy Quinlan
