Brant Rangers came into this one flying high after three wins on the bounce, full of confidence and momentum heading into our 10th fixture of the season. A few knocks meant we travelled with a slightly lighter squad, but gaffer Stef Porter backed the lads available to get the job done under the Coningsby sunshine.
A quieter start by recent standards saw some entertaining, end-to-end football from both sides before Rory Atkinson put us ahead with a tidy finish from an Alfie Burnett assist — that’s 10 goals in 9 games for Rory, who just keeps delivering.
Half Time: 1-0 Brant Rangers
A change in tactics during the break didn’t quite click, and North Kyme took advantage, equalising early in the second half and quickly following up with a second. The lads dug deep and pushed on, refusing to go down without a fight. A penalty awarded to North Kyme looked set to make things worse — but Chalkie stood tall and saved brilliantly, keeping us within reach.
Despite a late attacking surge, Brant Rangers couldn’t find the equaliser.
Huge thanks to North Kyme for being top-class hosts once again.
Man of the Match (picked by the opposition): Luke Holmes — full of graft and composure.
Plenty to be proud of, and plenty more to come.
Up the Rangers.
